Polar Power Add On Kit Troubleshooting

Power meters are sensitive devices which naturally will need more attention and care then the "set it and forget it" cyclometers you are used to. A couple of hiccups now and then is natural.

Polar Power units work on the basis of chain tension, kinda like an electric guitar pickup. Setup for this unit has specifics, which are outlined in the manual, but there are some common caveats:

1. Weigh the chain, weigh the chain, weigh the chain...

2. In the installed position, make sure the chain is never more than 25-30mm away from power module in your usable gear combos, measured at where the "middle" marking is on the case. BTW, the "middle" mark DOESN'T need to be in the middle of the chainstay.

3. Make sure the chain always passes over an ~1 in. square area centered on that same "middle" mark.

4. Ditch the Polar supplied cadence magnet and find some nice strong rare-earth type magnets to either attach to the backside of the pedal spindle or glue to the side of the crank arm.

5. Be careful with "dressing" the wires so they don't get snagged or worn through. Zip ties are your friend. Clear tape also works well and is less noticeable.

6. Weigh the chain, weigh the chain, weigh the chain!

7. Try to be as accurate as possible with your chainstay measurement too.
